Cornerstone Community Care is being supported to increase its highly successful learning programme on gaining employability in the care sector. The project will support twelve long-term unemployed beneficiaries from Glasgow and the west of Scotland who hold few or no qualifications to access opportunities such as on-the-job training and other essential workplace competencies. A growing demand for social care means that there is also a need for young people to consider careers in this sector. Roles in care are ideally suited to individuals not in education, training or employment, taking the form of a less traditional route into work and education. The proportion of practical, on-the-job learning provided is effective in engaging participants who have previously struggled within purely classroom environments. Participants will then be supported into further training, education or apprenticeship opportunities in the care sector including directly within Cornerstone’s own care settings.
